During the battle of Krstašica (Irig) in 1717, Serbian OberCaptain Adam Monasterlija and the 300 borderguards heroically gave their lives against the enemy thirty times more powerful in number.
In 1786 the Habsburg Emperor, Joseph II, visited the place, where, according to traditional tales, a stream of water had sprung. Having refreshed himself with the water from the Krstašica spring and the fruits from the nearby orchard and vineyard, the Emperor said:
„This is the fruits of heaven. Adam did come out of Eden, but he returned back to It with his 300 heroes.“
From that day on, from the same spring, we have been watering the same fruits and making them into a brandy, giving an imperial toast to the heroes of Krstašica:
